In one historic night for him, as he became the first Italian to headline one UFC event, Vettori (16-3-1 MMA, 6-2-1 UFC) earned the biggest win of his young career, defeating the veteran Jack Hermansson (21-6 MMA, 8-4 UFC) with a dominant performance. The judges scored 49-46, 49-46, and 49-45 in Vettori’s favor, as he constantly pressured the Swed.

He would miss a chance to immediately end the bout in the first round, once dropping Hermansson and going for a choke, but without proper execution. The Joker wanted to bounce back in the second and went for a takedown, getting Vettori on the ground. That wasn’t a good idea due to the Italian’s superb grappling knowledge, which saw him turning the tide and earning another round.

It seemed that the Swed might recover in the third, finally getting some action, but that didn’t last too long, with Vettori picking up the pace again in the fourth, continuing throughout the fifth to close this event without too many troubles.

Tonight’s main event saw incredible action, becoming the one with the most combined significant strikes in the UFC middleweight history – 286, and is ranked as the second-highest in the entire UFC history. The only match with more significant hits was the headliner of the UFC 241, Miocic vs. Cormier.

Vettori now has four wins in a row. His latest loss was at the UFC Fight Night: Poirier vs. Gaethje, once suffered a defeat to the current middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya, after a split decision. At the time, the judges’ decision raised many reactions and was labeled as controversial, but it seems that if Vettori continues to perform like this, he will have a chance to get even with the Last Stylebender.

The Italian had a rough year constantly experiencing schedule changes due to the COVID-19 chaos, and he wasn’t even planned to appear in this fight as well. Vettori jumped in two weeks before the same, as Kevin Holland backed out.

Hermansson posted his second loss over the past three matches. At first, Jared Cannonier knocked him out at the UFC Fight Night in Kopenhagen, but the Joker bounced back with a first-round win against Kelvin Gastelum. Following this loss, he will need to beat some big names before getting back into title-fight contention.
