Ciryl Gane (8-0 MMA, 5-0 UFC) continued his rise towards UfC heavyweight division, beating Jairzinho Rozenstruik (11-2 MMA, 5-2 UFC) in the main event of the UFC Fight Night 185.

The French fighter was more than confident against Rozenstruik, firmly controlling the situation in the octagon throughout all five rounds, earning a unanimous decision win, 50-45, 50-45, 50-45.

Bon Gamin, as the fans call him, applied cautious tactics with him staying out of Rozenstruik’s reach and collecting points with shorts bursts. He didn’t want to risk getting hammered by Rozenstruik’s powerful strikes, which is why this fight didn’t have too many exchanges and attractive moments.

Gane decided to use his kicks to create a separation between him and the Bigi Boy, who was unsuccessful in overcoming that obstacle. Apart from one series of punches in the third round, the fighter from Surinam didn’t show too much.

What was a big plus for the French fighter was his cardio, as he managed to stay fresh and with light movement throughout the entire fight, thus being able to move quickly around the octagon and dictate the tempo. Meanwhile, Rozenstruik was trying to catch up with that rhythm, and he did in the majority of the situations, but it was obvious that as time goes by, he is slowing down.

With this “routine” victory, Gane indicated that the entire division has to count on him in the future. He entered this fight as No.8, while on the other side, Rozenstruik was No.4. It is unlikely to see Bon Gamin reaching that spot, but No.5 or No.6 is expected.

That would make him very interesting for some big matches, especially due to his undefeated record. Gane could be involved in some title-eliminator if the plans for the fight between Jon Jones and the winner of Ngannou vs. Miocic come true. The winner of that one would later challenge whoever comes out as the new champion.

A few names are in option for his next opponent – Derrick Lewis and Alexander Volkov are topping the list.

As for Rozenstruik, he will slip in the rankings, that is for sure. This was his second loss in three fights, losing to Ngannou before beating Junior dos Santos previously. Next, he might face Curtis Blaydes as the Razor too lost his latest match, against Derrick Lewis, via one vicious KO.
