LeBron James and the Los Angles Lakers agreed to a two-year $85 million contract extension, which will see King James in LA until the 2022/23 season. LeBron’s agent, Rich Paul, revealed the news today.

With this contract, James will earn $41 million in 2021/22 and $44 million in the final year of this extension. It seems that the Lakers were willing to keep James and try to establish a dynasty, despite his age.

Coming out of the last year of this contract, LBJ will have 39 years, and that will be his 20th professional season. All that wasn’t a problem for the purple and gold, who have a strong belief that he and Anthony Davis can perform at the highest possible level for a few more years.

Soon to be a 36-year old was fantastic in the past season, leading the Lakers to the first title after a decade of waiting. LeBron was averaging 25.3 points per game, 10.2 assists, the league-leading, and 7.8 boards, with 49.3% shooting from the field.

His numbers were even better during the playoffs – 27.6 points, 10.8 assists, and 8.8 boards, rapidly increasing the shooting efficiency, 56%. Fantastic performances in the NBA Finals earned him the fourth MVP award and moved him one step closer to his idols Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan, who have five, and six titles, respectively.

James, however, did something no player managed to achieve before him, and that is winning the Finals MVP award with three different teams – Miami Heat in 2012, and 2013, with the Cavaliers in 2016, and the Lakers four years later.

The purple and gold changed the team a lot after capturing the title this year. Danny Green, Dwight Howard, and Rajon Rondo left town, but on the other side, the former Defensive Player of the Year and the champion with the Toronto Raptors, Marc Gasol, arrived. Besides the Spaniard, the German point guard Dennis Schroder also landed at Staples Center.

According to many, LAL’s most significant signing was Montrezl Harrell, who left the Clippers to join their biggest rivals. This is not only a massive addition for the Lakers but also an edge in a mental war between them and the No.1 challengers. It suggests that the Clips are still a small franchise compared to the “big brother.”
