Andy Dalton and the Chicago Bears have agreed to a one-year deal that will see the experienced quarterback earning $10 million. According to the sources, the player could get $3 million more in incentives.

The 33-year old comes after a mild season in Dallas, where he played for the Cowboys after Dak Prescott suffered a season-ending injury. Dalton himself had one very nasty injury during that time, which lowered his productivity and the Cowboys’ chances of reaching the playoffs.

In nine matches under his leadership, the franchise from Texas finished with a 4-5 record, having thrown 2,170 yards, adding 14 touchdowns with eight interceptions.

Dalton previously played nine years for the Cincinnati Bengals, where he became one of the most reliable quarterbacks in the NFL. He earned three Pro Bowl appearances, leading the Bengals to four straight playoffs, from 2011 to 2014. Unfortunately for both him and the franchise, they would always lose at the first obstacle.

Even though his stint in Dallas wasn’t very sounding and he didn’t produce some extraordinary numbers, Dalton created enough buzz around the league to earn himself another chance to become a starter.

The situation in Chicago was desperate over the last two years, because Mitch Trubisky turned out to be a major bust, and the Bears eventually decided to move on from their No.2 pick at the 2017 draft. The franchise from Illinois chose not to pick up his fifth-season option and released the 26-year old.

Previous to landing Dalton, the Bears were aggressive in their intention to trade for Russell Wilson, and they sent several offers to Seattle, but the Seahawks didn’t want to talk about any. The former MVP and one of the best quarterbacks in the past decade mentioned Chicago as one of his four potential destinations if he ever changes the team.

Many suggest that the Seahawks didn’t want to negotiate about the trade because of a massive hit to the salary cap space. Seattle would have to absorb around $39 million of dead money, all of that during this season if the trade was to happen before June 1.

That is where Dalton jumped in. The Bears already have a solid receiving corps, and overall, a pretty decent attacking team. On the other side, their defense is among the top 5 in the league, but the problem in the past were unreliable quarterbacks who lost matches that they weren’t supposed to. It is why Bears went from being a Super Bowl contender to a team that barely reaches .500 in 2020.
