UFC Fight Night 178: Cowboy Cerrone vs. Niko Price Preview and Pick

Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone and Niko Price are clashing in one of the most interesting matches at the UFC Fight Night 178. A veteran and a guy who is on his way up, bring a fight that might be interesting to watch.

Cerrone +130

“Cowboy” Cerrone is an underdog in this one, and after four straight losses, he ought to be. In all those fights, apart from the most recent one against Anthony Pettis, the veteran suffered a knockout. First, Tony Ferguson demolished his face at the UFC 238, then Justin Gaethje trashed Cerrone in the first round, and after that, Conor McGregor ended their matchup in 40 seconds.

So yeah, Cerrone is on his way down, rapidly, some might say. Even though he managed to stay on his feet for all three rounds against Pettis, Cowboy’s performance in that one was pretty poor.

One of the MMA’s legendary names is losing his reputation over the past few fights, looking like a mediocre fighter. He is one of the most respected and beloved guys in the UFC, but that doesn’t change the fact that right now, he is pretty bad.

Price -160

Win, lose, win, lose, etc. That is the current form of Niko “Hybrid” Price in his last six events. Soon to be 31-year old, was a big prospect a few years back, but he slowed down somewhere along the road.

His last match was at the UFC 249 once Vicente Luque defeated him after a doctor’s stoppage. The Hybrid was good in this match, reaching the third round for the first time in his UFC career, and having a solid chance to win.

Prior to that event, he beat James Vick via first-round KO, which boosted his stocks. Price has power, has speed, and has a solid frame for a welterweight, but his tactical knowledge is too thin, which is why we haven’t seen him defeating some bigger name.

Prediction

Price is much younger and stronger than his rival, who is, as we said, on the decline. Even though the experience is on Cowboy’s side, we can’t see him enduring raw and powerful bursts coming from the other side. That is why Price’s win here is much realistic.
