Conor McGregor comes back in the octagon, as the former two-division champion plans to meet Dustin Poirier next January.
What was just a speculation, turned out to be true in the end, with McGregor confirming the rumors that circulated in the MMA community. Even though there isn’t any contract signed yet, it seems the two guys have some verbal agreement between themselves, and they are ready to meet on January 23.
The venue of the match is not confirmed, but McGregor has a plan about making the fight at the AT&T Stadium in Dallas. According to the Notorious, his “friend” Jerry Jones will help him organize everything.

Stories about the bout emerged to the surface two weeks ago once fighters spoke about the charity match between them.
The Irishman hasn’t fought since January this year and the UFC 246, which was his comeback following the loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov at the infamous UFC 229. McGregor would beat Donald Cerrone in 40 seconds, via TKO smashing the American veteran and indicating that he might attack Nurmagomedov once again.
That, however, didn’t happen. The Russian Eagle didn’t want to talk about meeting McGregor and had other plans. In the meantime, COVID-19 pandemics, and the overall situation in the lightweight division made the situation even more complicated, which is one of the reasons why we haven’t seen the Notorious in the ring.
In the meantime, he wanted to have a professional boxing match against Mani Pacquiao. That didn’t happen too, even though there had been a lot of demand for that spectacle.
On the other side, Poirier is in a similar situation. His last defeat was against Khabib at the UFC 242 in a match for the title. After that, on June 27 this year, the American fighter had a comeback, vs. Dan Hooker, winning via unanimous decision.
A loss against Khabib was his only in the last six events, and during that period, Poirier became the lightweight interim champion, defeating names like Anthony Pettis, Justin Gaethje, Eddie Alvarez, and Max Holloway.
He and McGregor already met once, back in 2014, at the UFC 178. The Irishman won that battle via TKO in the first round, at 1:46
Even though the UFC hasn’t confirmed anything officially, the hype about this match already started overwhelming social media.
