The Mexican driver, Sergio Perez, is the winner of a dramatic Azerbaijan F1 Grand Prix. Red Bull’s driver perfectly used the mistakes of the top two title candidates, Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen.

Perez reached his second career win on the streets of Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, his first as the driver of the Austrian team. Just a few expected to see such development, but today’s race was filled with twists and flips.

The race had two parts, the first, which was 48 laps long, and the second, consisting of just two. Verstappen was in the middle of attention during that first period, taking over the lead from Lewis Hamilton during the tyre change. Young Dutchman utilized Hamilton’s longer pit stop taking over the leading position on the track. Previously, Lewis passed Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, who had a pole position.

However, with five laps to go, Verstappen’s rare left tyre went off, after which he hit the wall. The safety car was on track, but the stewards decided to show the red flag.

The race stop lasted for 30 minutes, and once it continued, Hamilton, who was also behind Perez, tried immediately to jump over the Mexican. While doing so, the Brit has made a massive mistake, hitting the brake late and losing his direction. That left Perez atop, with the four-time champion, Sebastian Vettel behind,

The Austrian, who is now driving for Aston Martin, was 11th at the start but had a marvelous run, managing to reach the podium in the end.

Pierre Gasly and Leclerc had a fierce battle throughout the entire race, but in the end, the Frenchman was better than Ferrari’s driver, taking the last place on the podium. This comes as a massive disappointment for the driver from Monte Carlo, as he fails to use his second straight pole position. He suffered a big setback at home in Monaco when he had to withdraw before the start due to a gearbox malfunction.

Lando Norris and Fernando Alonso followed Leclerc, and the remaining four drivers in the top ten today were Yuki Tsunoda, Carlos Sainz, Daniel Ricciardo, and Kimi Raikkonen. The other Mercedes driver, Valtteri Bottas, finished 12th, not winning a single point.
