Manchester City demonstrated its power tonight, beating Burnley with 5-0 at Etihad Stadium, in the closing game of EPL’s week 30.
The Citizens were superb, controlling the match right from the start and not allowing the guests to have the slightest chance of even hoping that they might endanger the rivals’ goal.
Guardiola’s side showed a difference in class, and after a bit slow start began pounding all over Burnley’s team, who was lucky enough to concede just five goals. When we tell you that hosts had 79% of the ball in its possession, everything will become crystal clear. City had seven shots on goal, Burnley none.
The 19-year old Phil Foden scored two goals and was by far the most impressive individual on the pitch. City’s youngster showed all of his talents, delivering superb performance and indicating that he might be Citizens’ secret weapon after this restart.
Foden netted an opener in the 22nd minute, with Riyad Mahrez having his spar in the span of six minutes at the very ending of the halftime. He would double the lead in the 43rd minute, and in the third minute of the injury time, add one more score, this time from the penalty spot.
Shortly after the halftime, that is in the 51st minute, David Silva brought a fourth goal, and in the 63rd Foden delivered another one. It was a crown on his excellent sequence, after which Guardiola decided to pull him out of the pitch, bringing Leroy Sane in.
This was the second match for City since the restart, and they again didn’t concede a goal. After 3-0 against Arsenal, the defense did an excellent job once more. Even though Burnley doesn’t have a superb finishing as some other sides in England, a clean sheet has to be respected.
Right now, the Sky-Blues are still second in the standings with 63 points, 20 fewer than Liverpool, and nine more than Leicester. As for Burnley, this is their third straight event in which they haven’t won, and the second during that span without a goal scored. The Clarets are 11th with 39 points, twelve above the relegation line.
