In the derby of the day, we saw the Reds’ initiative without any effect, while on the other side, Everton defended well, and scored goals. Richarlison and Gylfi Sigurdsson were the ones who brought the celebration to the Toffees.

The Brazilian striker scored in the 3rd minute, shocking the home team, following one quick and precise action. He would receive the ball in the box and beat Alisson from the right side.

Liverpool quickly recovered from the shock, and they started a siege of Everton’s goal, but without any success. Klopp’s guys always had one move more, or were one step early or late. With all the failed attacks, their morale was decreasing, while on the other side, Everton’s was going up.

Mane, Firmino, Henderson, Trent-Arnold, all these guys tried their luck, but Jonathan Pickford was superb in front of Everton’s net. Across the field, Alisson had one brilliant save in the 33rd minute, when Seamus Coleman threatened from a few yards.

Liverpool opened the second half even stronger, with Salah missing a nice chance in the 69th minute. All those wasted opportunities for the hosts came back like a boomerang in the 81st minute. Richarlison assisted Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who was brought down in the box. The referee had no doubts while pointing towards the penalty spot. Sigurdsson was calm enough while doubling the lead.

Everton posted a first win against the fierce rivals after 12 years of waiting, and 23 straight games played.

This was a hard slap in the face for the champs, who are already now out of the title race. Liverpool is sixth in the standings with 40 points, 16 fewer than Man City, who has a game in hand. What is even more important is the fact they are out of the zone, which leads to the UEFA Champions League, and judging by the way they play, reaching one of the top four places might be a problem for them.

Everton leveled with the city rivals, but the Toffees have one game yet to play, which means that they might be ahead of them pretty soon.

EPL continues tomorrow, with the biggest game of the day taking place in London, where Arsenal hosts Man City.
