The Detroit Lions have expressed interest in signing running back Todd Gurley, head coach Dan Campbell confirmed today.

Campbell stated that the Lions have contacts with the player and his agent, all in order of signing the excellent RB. Campbell also said that he and the team aren’t going to pressure Gurley too much but added that it would be great to have him as soon as possible.
Jalen Ramsey Becomes the Highest-Paid CB, Signs a $105 Million Extension With LA Rams
It seems that the Lions want to reunite Jared Goff and Gurley, as these two guys presented the axis of the LA Rams once they reached the playoffs. Detroit is in the process of rebuild and having these two guys who know one another and have a good history would help a lot.
Gurley was among the best running backs in the league during his stint in Los Angeles. He led the NFL in rushing TDs twice during that time, was named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2015, and was the Offensive Player of the Year two seasons later.
Georgia alumni was twice the First-team All-Pro and once a Second-team, and was a Pro-Bowler three times. In 2018, Gurley was one of the favorites for winning the MVP award.
His constant health issues have decreased fantastic numbers this guy had throughout the first four years, and the Rams decided to release him after 2019, two years following his four-year $60 million extensions.
Gurley played for the Atlanta Falcons in 2020, starting in 15 matches, and posting 678 rushing yards, for nine touchdowns, way below his usual level. The Falcons didn’t decide to offer him a new deal, which might indicate that he still has injury problems.
Lions already have two running backs on the roster, Jamaal Williams, who landed from Green Bay during this offseason, and D’Andre Swift. Gurley’s share of snaps would most likely be limited, but his experience and relationship with Goff would mean a lot for a team like Detroit.

The upcoming season will be very tough for the Lions, who have a cruel schedule. Their NFC North will cross paths with NFC West and AFC North division. Even though the pressure is not high because the board won’t demand anything in terms of results, head coach Campbell wants to speed up the rebuild and set up a foundation for further works on the roster.
