At 50 years of age, Mickelson wrote history while adding the sixth major to his collection. The American did something nobody achieved before him in 161 years. He proved that age sometimes could be just a number that prevents us from reaching our full potential.

With yesterday’s victory, Lefty, as the fans call him, eclipsed Julius Boros, who was two years younger once triumphing at the PGA Championship in 1968.

Mickelson would end two shots ahead of Brooks Koepka and Louis Oosthuizen.

Sunday’s title comes as a major boost of morale for the veteran who didn’t win a single trophy in two years and fell in the rankings all the way down to place no.115. His last major came in 2013 at The Open.

The fans went wild once Lefty secured the win, mobbing the winner who disappeared in the sea of hands. It was one of a kind celebration, and the reasons were quite legit, if we may add.

However, Koepka wasn’t thrilled with the way fans behaved. The four-time major winner, who played with an injured knee, stated that he received several hits in the troubling area with the crowd around him being fired up and reckless during Mickelson’s appearance.

Koepka hurt his kneecap this March while being on vacation with his family and had to undergo surgery following that. The check to $1.1 million for finishing second could wash away a small portion of his bitterness. He and Oosthuizen will receive the same amount of money, while Mickelson earned twice as much.

Four players were tied fourth. Padraig Harrison, Shane Lowry, Harry Higgs, and Paul Casey.

The social networks exploded following the last stroke, with congratulations on his success coming from various sides. Sister Tina was one of the first to hit Twitter, the same as NFL superstars Tom Brady, JJ Watt, and Patrick Mahomes.

Tiger Woods‘s message was the one that attracted the most attention. Woods, who suffered a car crash back in February, is recovering well for now, and he took the time to congratulate and praise Mickelson for being “an inspiration.”

PGA Championship To Be Held Without Spectators

The next big tournament is set for June 17, which is when US Open starts at Torrey Pines golf course at La Jolla, California.
