The decisive moments of the match took place in the fourth period when the hosts scored 13 unanswered points, erasing Clippers’ 102-97 lead and reaching one of their own.

Kyrie Irving was excellent during that stretch, adding eight of his 39 points, hitting a couple of threes, and making massive problems for the Clips’ defense.

Following that, the guests from the West Coast had one chance for coming back into the game in the closing moments of the clash, when they got down to one point, on two occasions, yet didn’t have enough fuel to win.

LA opened the game well, with 10-2, and was very confident throughout the first period, being up 10 or more points almost all the time. The Nets got back in the second, cutting down the deficit, yet founded themselves behind 56-45 with 3:28 to go.

Things changed following the break, and the game became much more intensified, as both teams traded buckets, frequently changing in the lead, and always being close to one another until that Nets’ push in the fourth.

Kyrie had 39 points, shooting 15-for-23 and making six threes in eight attempts. Kevin Durant scored 28 points, missing just twice from the game, 11-for-13, while James Harden posted another triple-double with 23 points, 14 assists and 11 rebounds. The Beard spent 43 minutes on the floor, a game-high.

On the other side, Kawhi Leonard had 33 buckets with 5 boards and 4 assists. Paul George scored 26 points and six assists and was complaining after the game about the fact that he had just one free throw. Nicola Batum had a nice role with 21 points and six rebounds, with five threes made.

Marcus Morris Sr. added 16 points off the bench, with four boards, all of them in defense.

The Clippers’ defense wasn’t at a high level at all, as they allowed 57% of the Nets’ shooting, 45-for-78. Meanwhile, Tyron Lue’s side was solid, 45.5% but far below the home side. LAC made 15 threes, while the Nets had two fewer.

Clippers have one more stop before heading back home, and that is in Cleveland already tonight. After that, they meet the Celtics and the Kings at Staples.

As for the Nets, Harden, Durant, and Kyrie have a pause until Friday, once they host the Raptors, before jumping to Philadelphia and Detroit.
