Uros Medic earned the UFC contract last night, after beating Mikey Gonzales in the opening episode of season 4 of Dana White‘s Contender Series.
The Serbian lightweight fighter who holds a 6-0 record at the moment, was more than dominant int he co-headliner of the event, as he brutally defeated Gonzales (7-2).
Medic, who was a -135 favorite before the match, completely justified his favorite status. In the end, even Dana White, who saw a lot of things in his career, was left amazed.
The Serb sent several punches and kicks to Gonzales’ body early one, indicating what will happen shortly afterward. One hard left hook shook the American, who then received a body kick, which would send him to the canvas.
It didn’t take too long before Medic once again smashed Gonzales with a left hand, bringing the rival down, unleashing massive ground-and-pound afterward before the judge stepped in.
According to White’s words, the 27-year old was the most impressive this Tuesday.
“He was without a doubt the star of the show tonight,” White said….” I love him. Welcome to the UFC, kid.”
All this is more impressive if we add that the fighter from Serbia accepted the bout on short notice, as he received the offer some two and a half weeks earlier.
So far, Medic won all of his six fights via stoppage, and five of them came in the first round. Three were via KO, and two after a triangle choke submission. The Serb arrived at the USA five years ago, and he joined Anchorage BJJ, arguably the most successful MMA team in Alaska. Among other names, this club launched Demtrious Johnson and Jared Cannonier.
Medic fought at Alaska Fighting Championship, and some of his fights were in the welterweight division, but he has no problems adjusting to lightweight.
It seems that this fighter has quite the potential, and it is no wonder why White immediately decided to award him a contract.
Apart from Medic, two other guys received deals with the UFC – Dustin Jacoby and Jordan Leavitt.
Jacoby, 32, was better via decision against Ty Flores, in a match in which he dominated throughout all three rounds.
Leavitt, delivered an opposite ending, as he submitted Luke Flores already in the first round, which was enough for White to award him a contract.
