Daniel Dubois vs. Joe Joyce would have pitted two undefeated British boxers against one another and had been rumored to be taking place in July. While many thought that bout was pretty much a lock, negotiations had fallen off and both boxers started talking about their next opponents.
The excitement of two undefeated heavyweight prospects fighting on home soil would have been a big win for fans.
Luckily for fight fans in Britain, it has been announced that 21-year-old Dubois, who sports a perfect record of 11-0 will now face 22-year-old British heavyweight Nathan Gorman. Gorman also is undefeated with a 16-0 record.
The two will battle for the vacant British heavyweight title on July 13, 2019. The fight will take place at The O2 Arena in London, England.
While Dubois has received a lot of press and hype, Gorman has flown under the radar by comparison. He has 11 knockout wins under his belt already and debuted as a professional boxer on December 5, 2015.
His last bout was March 23, 2019 and won via unanimous decision after a ten round battle with American Kevin Johnson. The orthodox boxer from Nantwich, England currently holds the WBC International Silver heavyweight title.
Dubois has 10 knockouts to his credit, including a 4th round victory over Richard Lartey on April 27, 2017. The only fighter to have taken him the distance was Johnson. Dubois currently holds the WBO European and Global heavyweight titles.
Johnson isn’t the only opponent the fighters have both faced. Gorman defeated Razvan Cojanu via unanimous decision while Dubois knocked him out at 2:48 in the second round.
While other fighters seem to want to protect their perfect records, Dubois has been quite vocal that he will face anyone in front of him. In the press release announcing the fight, Dubois was quoted as saying;
“I would have fought Joe Joyce and now I will fight Gorman. I am confident in my own ability that I can deal with everyone out there and I’ve got what it takes to beat them.”
Gorman was equally willing to face Dubois and was surprised that it was happening so quickly. There had been rumors of the two possibly facing at the end of the year but was made to happen earlier with the Dubois/Joyce fight negotiations falling apart.
Gorman is also excited for the opportunity to give Dubois his first loss. He is quoted in the press release as saying;
“I’m over the moon we’ve got the fight on. Fair play to Daniel, I didn’t think he would have accepted it, but he is obviously as keen as I am to fight. There should be plenty of excitement and a I’m sure the fans will love it.
Daniel Dubois vs. Nathan Gorman will take place on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at The O2 Arena in London, England.
