Three more matches were announced for this year’s Wrestlemania, two of which were setup during tonight’s SmackDown. Shane McMahon kicked off the show with an explanation why he attacked The Miz. his former tag team partner, following their loss at this past weekend’s Fastlane event. McMahon would tell the audience that he was “The Best In The World” and was tired of everyone always wanted his help to get further in the wrestling business.
Shane-O-Mac would also confess that he felt amazing after beating up The Miz and his father, who was ringside to cheer on the former SmackDown tag team champions. McMahon then scheduled a match against The Miz and made it clear his opponent would be participating as he was the boss and would do what he said. The Miz was not at SmackDown with the announcers stating he was recovering from the attack and taking care of his father.
Another match announced during the show was not much of a surprise at all. AJ Styles and Randy Orton have been running into each other for weeks and finally got face to face in the ring. The two discussed their different backgrounds in the business; Styles having to prove himself in the indies and other promotions while Orton was given every opportunity in the WWE based on his family history in the wrestling business.
Randy Orton promised to tear down the “House That AJ Built” while stating that the WWE was his “house” and Styles’ rent was due. Styles then challenged him to a match at Wrestlemania. The story line itself is somewhat contrived but with those two major names on the roster not having anything lined up for the WWE’s biggest show, the creative team had to throw something together.
During this week’s Monday Night Raw, the anticipated match between Triple H and Batista (Dave Bautista) was also confirmed when the expected face to face encounter was broadcast live during the show. Batista was joined by a security team and spoke to his former friend from the ramp rather than heading to the ring.
Batista demanded the match that he has always asked for; a match at Wrestlemania against Triple H. Hunter first denied that match until Batista promised to continue “to hurt people you love.” He agreed to a match with Batista with the stipulation that it would be a No Holds Barred match, something Triple H is infamous for.
Other confirmed matches for the April 7, 2019 event include;
WWE Universal Championship Title Match
Brock Lesnar vs. Seth Rollins
Triple Threat Match For WWE Raw Women’s Championship
Ronda Rousey vs. Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair
