The guests were better than the Seagulls, as the fans call Brighton, but they only scored one goal, even though they had many chances. At least four excellent opportunities were wasted, and Liverpool risked entering a thrilling ending as the home team increased the pressure in the final five minutes, but they couldn’t make anything worth mentioning.
The absence of Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip made Fabinho the second center-back in this game. The creative midfielder played well, but on several occasions, everybody could notice that this position isn’t his primary one.
Brighton didn’t have much to lose in this game, and they tried to endanger Alisson from counter-attacks, but the guests prevented that from happening.
This was the 18th win for the Reds, who now have 57 points, seven more than their biggest rival for the title, Manchester City. Though, the Sky-Blues have a game in hand, and will play against Wolverhampton this Monday night.
In the next five weeks, Liverpool has six games, five of them at Anfield. Then upcoming two are against Crystal Palace and Leicester City, then they travel to London to meet with West Ham, and after that come back home to face Bournemouth and Bayern Munich in the Champions League Round of 16.
As for Brighton, they have a tough road game next week, against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
