For the second year in a row, the Oklahoma Sooners have the best player in college football according to Associated Press.

Kyler Murray crowned his excellent season with a huge recognition for his hard work. He won the Associated Press college football Player of the Year Award in front of Tua Tagovailoa and Dwayne Haskins Jr.

This is Oklahoma’s fifth ever player to receive such an honor. Last season’s winner was the No.1 pick in this NFL draft, Baker Mayfield.

At the end of the voting, Murray had 145 points, Tagovailoa 117, and Haskins 55. Though some might think that the difference between the first two is small, Murray had three times more first-place votes, 39, compared to 13, Alabama QB collected.

Last year Murray was Mayfield’s backup, and he earned the starter place during this preseason. His numbers have been superb, reaching 4,053 yards for 40 touchdowns. Meanwhile, he carried the ball into the end zone 11 times and collected 892 yards. When put together, these 4,945 yards are the best in the country. That also applies to his passing efficiency 205.7 and the number of points he is responsible for, 305.

He is the son of Kevin Murray, former Texas A&M quarterback, who created numerous landmarks for the Aggies during the mid-1980s, among others, season and career passing records.

Kyler Murray himself began college career at the same university, but decided to go to Oklahoma after his freshman year, despite having to sit out the whole season after that.

The interesting thing is that Oakland Athletics selected him in this year’s MLB draft as the 9th overall pick and signed a $5 million contract with him.

After today’s award, his chances of winning the Heisman Trophy are going to increase, as only two of AP Player of the Year winners haven’t won Heisman since 2002. He also won Davey O’Brien trophy at the ESPN College Football Award Show, for the nation’s best quarterback.

Meanwhile, Tagovailoa won Maxwell and Walter Camp awards, and these two are now going to New York, to see who gets the biggest award in college football.

They will have a chance to face one another on December 29th, when No.1 Alabama and No.4 Oklahoma clash at the Orange Bowl semifinals, and decide who is the best college player.

And really, who is the best player this season?
