The Kansas City Chiefs defeated one of their biggest conference rivals last night, the Buffalo Bills, with 26-17. In a matchup between the two sides that many predict to reach the AFC Championship Game, Super Bowl champions showed their power.
Chiefs’ defense was constantly troubling Josh Allen, who posted just 122 passing yards, 14-of-27 for two touchdown passes and one pick. Allen ran for 42 yards on eight carries, but his other teammates didn’t provide a decent ground game. He alone yielded the same number of yards as Devin Singletary and Zack Moss combined.
Meanwhile, the Chiefs’ rushing game was perfect thanks to Clyde Edwards-Helaire, who destroyed the Bills. The rookie running back rushed for 161 yards on 26 carries, and even though he didn’t score a single touchdown, Edwards-Helaire was a massive enigma for the Bills’ defense.
Poor weather in Buffalo forced Andy Reid to decrease Mahomes’ workload, and focus more on his RBs. Eventually, KC recorded 245 yards on the ground, compared to just 84 of the hosts.
Mahomes was rational and efficient as always, not completing just five of his passing attempts, 21-of-26 for 225 yards and two TD passes, both to Travis Kelce, who had 65 receiving yards in five catches, Demarcus Robinson had 69, Byron Pringle 46.
The Chiefs secured a win at 1:20 before the match, once Daniel Sorensen intercepted Allen, preventing some kind of a late miracle.
Bills’ QB was facing a lot of difficulties throughout the entire match. He wouldn’t develop a connection with his wide receivers at all, with Stefon Diggs and Cole Beasley having 46 and 45 yards, respectively.
In the end, the difference in yardage between the two sides was massive, KC 466, Bills 206.
After starting the season with four straight victories, Buffalo lost the last two matches, and that puts pressure on them now. What is a good thing is that Sean McDermott’s boys face the weakest team in the league next week, the New York Jets. Bills will have a very important match coming after that, also against the divisional rivals, New England Patriots. A win here would mean a lot in the race for the top of the AFC East.
The Chiefs travel to Mile High to play against the divisional rivals, Denver Broncos. After that, Mahomes and the boys have two games at their Arrowhead Stadium against the poor Jets and the Carolina Panthers.
