Atlanta United Shows Its True Face, Routinely Defeats Sporting Kansas City On The Road, 0-3

The Atlanta United defeated Sporting Kansas City on the road with 3-0, and posted their second win in a row.

It was a solid match in which the guests from Georgia performed much better. They had more chances to score and controlled situations when they had to withstand pressure very well. United was looking like a true champion of the MLS, which couldn’t be said for them during the previous rounds.

The hosts, on the other hand, couldn’t deliver, and Peter Vermes will have a lot of things to take care of, in order for his team to reach the playoff spot in the Western Conference. They opened the campaign solid, but now have five games without a triumph.

Josef Martinez, the reigning MVP of the league, and Ezequiel Barco ran the show tonight, as these two guys scored all goals, with the note that Barco was involved in all three of them.

Martinez opened the show in the 39th minute, when he poked the ball on a rebound, after Barco’s powerful strike. Tim Melia managed to deny the Argentinian’s shot, but couldn’t do anything against Martinez.

SKC then responded and had a couple of excellent chances for a goal, but they failed to use any of them.

Just two minutes into the second half, Barco was the scorer himself. His shot from a distance found the way past Melia, and the guests have doubled the lead, indicating that this might turn out to be festival of their goals.

Five Stripes took over the command on the field, and were unchallenged throughout most of the second half.

It was the 57th minute when Martinez once again hit the back of the net for the United, and sealed this game. It was Barco who assisted him inside the 18-yard box after which the Venezuelan striker didn’t have any problems of scoring.

Up until this event, Atlanta netted just six times, which is very frustrating for the team which led the league last season.

Sporting Kansas City is in problems, especially their defense which allowed 11 goals over the past three matches.

Up next, SKC plays with DC United in Washington, next Sunday. Atlanta hosts Toronto FC on Wednesday.
