Everything is set for the biggest soccer match of the season in the United States. Atlanta United and the Portland Timbers are going to decide which team wins this year’s MLS Cup.

After only two years of existence, Atlanta could reach its first silverware, which proves that MLS is one of the most exciting and unpredictable championships in the whole world. Meanwhile, the Timbers are chasing the second title in history, although nobody could see them go this far after finishing fifth in the regular part of the season.

Though, they will have a tough task at hand, having in mind that United’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium has the highest attendance in the league throughout the whole competition. It is expected to see more than 70,000 spectators tonight, and they are going to be huge support for the hosts.

However, Portland knows how to play in a hostile environment, as they eliminated all of their opponents playing the second more important game on the road. They won against Sporting Kansas City in the last seconds of the event with 2-3, ( 0-0 first leg ), eliminated Seattle Sounders after the penalty shoot-out 2-4, with 3-3 on aggregate. Their win in the first round also came away from home, defeating Dallas 1-2.

Atlanta eliminated two teams from New York. In the conference semifinals NY City 3-1. 1-0, and in the finals of the East NY Red Bull, defeating them 3-0 at home, and losing 0-1 on the road.

What might be the problem for them and their coach “Tata” Martino is the fact that Michael Parkhurst the captain of this team is still doubtful as he didn’t fully recover from his injury picked up against the Red Bulls. Martino’s biggest weapon will be the top goalscorer of the league Josef Martinez who scored 34 goals this season.

Timber has the 2017 MLS MVP Diego Valeri whose form reached the peak at the right moment. He and Sebastian Blanco are going to lead Portland towards another title, first after 2015.

The referee of this event is going to be Alan Kelly from the Republic of Ireland.

One very interesting thing is that Atlanta’s Mayor Mr. Arthur Blank already started talking about the winning parade after United wins the Cup. This might motivate the guests, who already showed their quality in a similar situation.

Will, they upset another favorite, this time in the most important game of the season?
