Alexandra Patricia Morgan Carrasco, or simply Alex Morgan was named U.S. Soccer Female Player of the Year, earlier today.

Her fantastic season in the women’s national team, was the main reason why she ended up in front of Julie Ertz, Tobin Heath, Lindsey Horan, and Megan Rapinoe after voting.

Morgan was simply unstoppable when playing for the U.S. national team, netting 18 goals in 19 appearances, pushing the reigning world champions to another World Cup tournament which will take place in France during the next year.

From those 19 games she played for the USA, Morgan managed to hit the back of the net in 11 of them. At the moment she is only two hits shy of her 100th goal for the national team.

The most impressive run was at the CONCACAF Women’s Championship, where she scored 7 times in five contests. When needed the most, Morgan stepped up displaying her full potential. In the semifinals of the tournament against Jamaica, she scored twice, while against Canada in the finals, the 29-yeard old sealed the fate of the northern neighbors with the closing goal of the match.

The USA was without a single loss during the whole 2018, posting 19 victories and only two draws, with Morgan as the absolute leader of this group

Her first Player of the Year Award came in 2012 when she led the American team to the Olympic gold medal in London.

She and the rest of the girls will try to defend the World Cup title won four years ago in Canada, during the next summer, and the draw for that competition is tomorrow.

The award for the Young Player of the Year went to Tierna Davidson. The 19-year old was a regular part of the national team until she broke her ankle in September, playing for Stanford against North Carolina.

This huge setback came in less than three weeks since she scored her first international goal, against Chile on 31st of August.

Young defender quickly became one of the most important pieces of the USA’s back line, indicating that she might be the future leader of this team.
